President of Parliament Gives Update on Streaming Decision
The Chairman of Parliament Rolando Brison responded to questions regarding the decision to stop the Parliament meetings' stream on Facebook. Many people were in shocks yesterday by the decision to stop streaming on Facebook as no update to the public was given. The meetings are currently being streamed on Vimeo's live streaming platform and can be accessed by going to Parliament's website.
According to MP Brison, no Parliament he's aware of streams on Facebook. The public can go to Parliament's website www.sxmparliament.org and find the meetings there. The videos are also available immediately on the site when the meeting is over. The main reason for the change according to MP Brison is Parliament is transitioning to a new system that will soon fully be in place to modernize the streaming of the meetings. Brison stated that they've been dealing with stability and flagging issues due to Facebook's strict policy on political broadcasts.
"After the recess people will see a huge improvement in the quality of the stream, but the transition has to start now in order to make sure we have a stream in time for the end of the recess" the Chairman said. Parliament will also improve the notification process.
The new system is similar to that of the Dutch Second Chamber which has 4k stream quality, transcripting, timestamped recording and other features he further added. The United Democrats stated they were against the decision and questions were raised by MP Claudius Buncamper and Christopher Emmanuel about the change.
