Hillside Christian School Teachers Suprise Students
To kick off Teacher’s Appreciation Month at the Asha Stevens Hillside Christian School, the teachers came to school dressed as their students. According to the school manager Chananda Rombely-Delaney, “Two years ago, before Covid turned everyone’s school life upside down, a staff member brought forward the suggestion as a fun idea to do with the staff.” The idea was even supported by the board and turned out to be a hit with the students. “They really enjoyed seeing the teachers dressed up as one of them.” The dress-up took place on Friday, October 1, 2021, before teachers and students went on midterm break this week.
Students teased their teachers, asking them which class they belonged to and letting the staff know if the uniforms were according to school regulations. “As a staff, it is really
important to have those moments of light-hearted fun to balance all of the seriousness that we must contend with as adults,” Rombely stated.
She added that both campuses celebrated the start of Teachers Appreciation Month by showing appreciation with small gestures. “Today was our dress-up day, and the other campus will have theirs later during the month.” Rombley stated a repeat would occur in the future but with a twist that will also include the students.
Regarding the school’s plan to increase school spirit, Rombely stated that staff would participate in different activities that would allow them to show appreciation for their colleagues. Parents are also encouraged to show appreciation to their child’s class teacher. Rombely said that the school board would host a staff enrichment day at the end of the month, including fun and educational activities. She added, “This is topped off by a token of appreciation from the school board for their hard work and dedication.”
